About Mangosteen Fruit

Mangosteen fruit is found primarily in Southeast Asia, parts of South America  and the Philippines. Mangosteen has been used for centuries in folk medicine as well as the traditional medicine systems thoughout Southeast Asia. It has been used to remedy; skin and gum diseases, tooth ache pain, parasites and fungus, wounds, burns, melancholy, fatigue, fever relief, dysentery, etc.

Recently, more research and studies about mangosteen have uncovered additional properties such as Anti-inflammation, Anti-tumor, Anti-aging, Anti-oxidant, Anti-viral, Anti-bacterial, and Anti-diabetic. Although this research is still being studied it appears that mangosteen derives its health benefits because of its rich source of super anti-oxidants known as Xanthones that are found throughout the entire plant, but with the greatest amount being found in the "pericarp" or inner rind of the fruit.

The mangosteen trees that are used for Faro's mangosteen products are organically grown in pristeen forests without pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. At harvest time, which is only once a year for all mangosteen, Faro import experts have made it their priority to be face to face with the growers.

Our buyers ensure that each mangosteen fruit is carefully and selectively picked and only the fruit that is dark red to purple in color is chosen. Never light red or black which would indicate that it is either pre-ripe or over ripened.

Harvesting is done quickly and efficiently so that the fruit is plucked from the tree at its peak ripe state for the highest nutritional value.

About Mangosteen Pericarp Powder

The outer skin is then twisted off. A slight amount of pressure and a twist will allow the skin or hull to release from the white fruit inside. The fruit is first removed and used for other purposes. But the skin (or pericarp) is carefully layed out and exposed to the sun...a natural drying process that has been used in Southeast Asia for centuries and has not been improved upon even with today's modern equipment and science. Yes, sun drying does take longer, but it is the best way to insure that the skin (or "pericarp") nutrients remain undamaged as can happen with other drying processes. Sun-dried pericarp yields the highest tannin concentration of 5.5% and is preferred for medicinal usage over any other drying methods.

After the drying process is complete, the sun dried pericarp pieces are then ground to a fine powder. Faro's "mangosteen pericarp powder" is then ready to be either packaged for wholesale purchase or ready to be shipped to be either encapsulated or used for other types of Faro mangosteen products.
